Hi, this is Chris. I’m currently studying a master degree in Organizational Change Management at the City University of Hong Kong. Joe was one of my good team members in the first semester as well as this course of High Performance Collaborations.  Back to the time of my undergraduate, I studied Biochemistry at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

An organization is established by people; individual excellence contributes to the company success. In the commercial world, environment is evolving so rapidly that we have to respond and adapt to the changes. Thus, unleashing employee’s potential to embrace challenges is critically important to the organizational success. And this master course will enables me to helping the organization to reach another zenith, by exploring various theories, case studies, interacting with classmates and inspiration from lecturers, etc.

I have been working in the industry for almost 15 years and I’m now working in a MNC of pharmaceutical industry, leading a function of Sales Excellence and Business Improvement. I started my career as a sales representative in a company at which our previous Chief Executive also worked for before.  It was really an interesting experience for a young graduate to sell the little blue pills at that time.  I have developed my career in sales and people management that I’m particularly interested in people. Learning Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) allows me to better understand myself and other people’s models of the world.

Something about my family, I’m a father of 2 kids whose ages are 15 months apart, a boy and a girl. They are both studying at kindergartens. My wife is an English teacher and that she has got heavy workload at school but is still able to contribute her best in developing our kids. Nurturing the kids well is our common prime goal. Story telling is a must-do routine, so we do it every single night with Duncan & Winsome. At the weekends, we normally go outing to explore new things instead of simply letting the kids joining various playgroups.  I used to be very active in playing sports, particularly volleyball, badminton and tennis. But I seldom do regular exercise after the kids were born. Indeed, playing with Duncan and Winsome does require a lot of energy and it serves the purpose of calorie burning which prevents me from keeping gaining extra weight!

ABOUT US
JOE Chau, 52923375

Hi everyone, I am Joe Chau. I have been working at the Hong Kong Jockey Club for 8 years. Recently, I am one of the in charge of the retail branch and now I have to manage the call centre operation in the Sha Tin Racecourse. Thus, it is my responsibility to manage the mass customer flow, large cash flow and huge staff pool.

I always remind myself. The customers of the Hong Kong Jockey Club is different from other industry. Many of them have uniquely more product knowledge than me! Thus, I always have to refresh and upgrade myself to catch the ever-increasing customer demand.

The program of the Master's Degree in Organizational & Change Management (MSOCM) at CityU gives me a valuable chance to enhance myself in different aspects of Management. It also provides me a platform to meet expertise (my classmates) in different industries. I do enjoy this valuable learning life these two year at the CityU.

Actually, I am an outgoing person. During my leisure time, I love playing sports, e.g., playing basketball, muay Thai boxing, running. To broaden my horizon, I enjoy traveling very much. Surprising, I am interested in drawing. My pictures are posted at my office! If anyone gets the same hobby with me. Please call me to join with you, thank you.
Time to connect and get success!

In an organization, there must be a leader or a group of leaders. Collaboration is one the important leadership skills to encounter the changing environment.

To enable an effective collaboration, there must be "Connect" with different elements, for example, communication, cooperation, coordination and commitment.  Each of them are inter-related and linked together to sustain high performance as well as achieve collaboration goal.

Therefore, our team uses "CONNECT" as our group name to bring more insights about an effective collaboration. From the logo, you can see each letter from the word "CONNECT" contains "C" which inter-links with another "C".  Each "C" represents an element described in the past paragraph.

Last but not the least, we found that Collaboration does not solely appear in a marco scale as in an organization, but even in a micro scale as in our team project. Sometimes, we need to apply skills in managing conflicts or even problem-solving.
